After much thought, deliberation, and a thorough review of the file, the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce board and staff made the difficult decision to cancel the 2025 Northwest Trade Expo. While the Expo has delivered decades of exceptional economic benefit for vendors and the Smithers community, as well as entertainment and success for visitors and locals alike, organizing the event has become increasingly costly and unsustainable. As a small non-profit organization, and without adequate sponsorship, local partnerships, and volunteer support, we are unable to absorb the extensive administrative workload and rising expenses required to deliver the event at the standard we host our events.Â
We are already exploring a refreshed return of the Expo for 2026, following the conclusion of Minerals North, and welcome your ideas, partnerships, and early commitments to help shape its success.
