New Mural comes to life at the Smithers Visitor Centre
August 24, 2020
The mural has been designed to depict a comprehensive ‘snapshot’ of life in the Bulkley Valley, featuring symbols of our business community, Economic Development, culture, and the general pulse of the area. A legend will be displayed alongside the mural outlining some of the elements in the piece, giving viewers a history and explanation behind the importance of each element. We believe this mural will stimulate conversation, interpretation, and education.
During this uncertain time, this project has reminded us how strong, multifaceted, and supportive the local community is. Pop by and check out the progress!
Emerenne Saefkow is the artist behind the mural. This talented and creative student artist took on the challenging task of redesigning the Smithers Chamber/Visitor Centre mural. Emerenne collaborated with our very own Chamber member, artist Roy Henry Vickers to create a legacy piece depicting symbols of the Bulkley Valley.
Several of the sponsors, media, chamber, and visitor centre staff and Emerenne’s parents attended the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, August 19th. Sponsors include: Town of Smithers, Bulkley Valley Credit Union, Pretivm Resources, All West Glass, CityWest, Hy-Tech Drilling, McElhanney Ltd., LB Paving, Seabridge Gold, RBC, Export Navigator.
The Smithers District Chamber of Commerce and the Smithers Visitor Centre are very thankful for the support of these businesses with this project. Keep watching for what else is in store!
